Greece

In September 2017 Max and I went on our first trip outside of the US together. Neither of us had ever been to Greece before and it was a really amazing experience. We spent 2 nights in Athens, flew to Santorini for 3 nights then took a ferry to Mykonos for our last 3 nights. Each place was very different but beautiful in each way.

Athens was very old, as to be expected, but very authentic and charming. The main activity to do there is to visit the Acropolis. I would also highly recommend the bar A for Athens that has an incredible view of the Acropolis and the surrounding city for drinks or dinner. There are also tons of streets with shops and even the fish eating pedicures as well. Amazing authentic greek food everywhere.

Santorini was by far the most romantic place we stayed, very peaceful and quiet. I HIGHLY recommend staying in Imergovil rather than Oia because Oia is where most people go, there are tons of tourist buses shuttled in and out everyday and it gets almost impossible to walk around through the tiny streets. Huge note about Santorini and Greece in general you need to be able to climb stairs and walk around well because you will be doing a lot of it.

Imergovil is home to those amazing honeymoon suites you see and generally the vibe is much calmer and it’s at the center of the island. You must rent an ATV and scooter around to your destinations, such a huge part of our experience. We drove the ATV to Oia one day just to see all the classic domes you think of when you think of Greece. We also went to the black sand beaches which were amazing, lounge chairs, drinks, food, massages all conveniently right on the beach. Make sure to catch the sunset every night as they are unreal.

Lastly we went to Mykonos and saw a few friends there, it’s a great place for partying. The main town is also very unique and what you picture when you think of Greece. I recommend staying somewhere within walking distance of the wind mills as it will be easy for you to walk to restaurants, bars, and shopping. Most of the beaches in Mykonos you need to drive to - we rented another ATV. Our favorite beaches were Nammos, Scorpios, and the one next to super paradise that I can’t recall the name of. We drove to Principamos but it happened to be closed that day, but that beach also looked phenomenal.
