2021 Fashion Trends

As we enter 2022 and all the fashion month news to come, I wanted to take a look back at the top trends of last year and see what will continue to be a focus in this year’s collections. Take a look at some of my favorite and least favorite trends below and what I think will continue to thrive in the months to come:

Baggy Pants

This is a trend I fully support and hope we never come back from. Why were we wearing such tight pants everyday to begin with? I think the extremes of either are not great but hoping this movement continues - from straight leg denim to baggy corporate pants with a white tee I’m in for it all.

Shoulder Bags

I’ve fully invested in these and don’t think they’re going anywhere. There’s something chic about bags you can throw over your shoulder or hold in one hand, it’s very easily translatable from day to night which is my favorite aspect of this trend.

Platform Shoes

I’m not a huge fan of how these look and they’re not really practical from a packing and storage standpoint. I think when done right they can really make an outfit but when done wrong can easily go towards the hoochie looking front. I’ve seen platform shoes come and go several times in my lifetime already so I don’t think it’s a bad investment, just one that won’t last long periods of time.

Puffer Jackets

This to me is not a trend and will always be in style if you live somewhere cold. Is it more fashionable some years than others? Sure, but if you don’t already have a couple of these you’re doing winter wrong.

Dad Hats

I love dad hats, I hate everything else. Dad hats are the only normal looking hats to me, I don’t like trucker hats or snap backs or anything else (if we’re focusing on hats with front facing brims only). If you don’t have a dad hat, go to your parents closets and grab a couple. I really like the elevated colors of yankee hats that have been trending but really you can’t go wrong here. They look cute and protect your face from the sun!

Lug Sole Boots

I think these are definitely a passing trend, I am obsessed with the look of them and have bought in but at a Zara level not Prada. I don’t think these are going to stick around for long UNLESS you live in a rural area that gets mud and snow all the time - which in fact I do have a house upstate so I think boots with a thick rubber sole definitely are needed there. Am I wearing these out to nice restaurants? No. Are other bloggers and fashionistas at the moment? Yes. I don’t think it will last into the end of next year though.

Vests

I am a huge believer in fashion having a purpose and being practical (most of the time). I don’t think vests really have a purpose, especially ones for cold weather, they don’t have sleeves so it’s a no for me. I do like vests in warmer weather worn as t-shirts though that’s the way I would rock the vest trend if it were up to me. I think vests will come and go for a long time so not a bad investment to make if you’re really into them.

There you have it! Looking forward to seeing the runways this year and see which of my predictions come true.
