Kingston

I’ve been going to Kingston for 2-3 years now and it’s probably one of my favorite “upstate” cities that’s convenient from NYC. Kingston seriously has it all. The city contains multiple towns: ‘uptown’, ‘downtown’ and even some town in between. Downtown Kingston sits right on the Hudson river with plenty of beautiful boats docked right on the waterfront. There are several restaurants and shops in downtown and this gorgeous bed and breakfast I love called The Forsyth. You can have an amazing weekend getaway without ever leaving downtown Kingston, there’s even a beautiful beach if you don’t mind the thought of swimming in the Hudson. You can rent bikes, go to Brunette Wine Bar (my favorite place in Kingston, besides Lis Bar for food and drinks). Then, you remember, there’s an entire uptown! Uptown is actually even bigger than downtown and has tons of vintage and antique shopping as well as my top coffee spots: outdated cafe and rough draft bar and books. Uptown Kingston has music venues and the very trendy new hotel Kinsley, another place I’d recommend staying located inside of a historic bank. In between uptown and downtown there are some stretches of random strip malls but there are also design treasures like BCMT furniture store and Zaborskis Emporium - the best place to treasure hunt for slabs of marble and unique dining pieces.

The best part part besides Kingston itself, it’s really close to my favorite reservoir walk the Ashokan, as well as all the hiking the Catskills have to offer. You are also only a 10 minute drive from Woodstock an entire other city with great things to do. In the winter, you’re only a 40 minute drive to Hunter/Wyndham mountain.
